TYPES OF WEB HOSTING
Free hosting
Some companies offer this particular service for many reasons. Some can be to attract clients; some can be for promotions and more. Most times this type of hosting comes with their advert and is limited in terms of capability when compared with a paid hosting. For serious web hosting, you will just have to go “paid hosting”.
Shared hosting
This is like the entry level for paid hosting. If you are looking forward to getting up your own website, this will be a good place to start. Shared hosting entails hosting your site on a shared physical computer, alongside other sites too. This way, you pay less and still get good service.
VPS hosting
Virtual private server (vps) hosting is still somewhat shared, but has a bigger advantage to just shared hosting. Here, the server resources are divided into virtual areas where you can maintain and work on alone. It’s like having a location fenced out for you in a bigger land where everyone is. So you virtually own a computer space for your site alone. This is great for business and websites that have more intensive needs. Some companies still offer this as a reseller, where one can buy this, manage and resell them, depending on the size.
Dedicated hosting
The name says it here. You have a full computer all to yourself. This is pretty much expensive compared to shared and vps hosting because you will own every space on the computer.
Cloud computing
Cloud hosting services are more reliable because you get your files hosted on many computers that are connected from different locations. This way the load is balanced. The most benefit to this is that you pay for your utility alone. This type of hosting is usually for bigger companies that need wider services and reach.
There are still some other variations of web hosting services from web hosts. Having seen these and know what web hosting is about, starting up your website will hardly be an issue.
